Insights from the Erasmus+ Information Session in Bamako, Mali
On 15 September 2025, Kurukanfuga University in Bamako, Mali, hosted an Erasmus+ information session to encourage greater involvement of Malian youth and institutions in the opportunities offered by the Erasmus+ 2021–2027 programme.
The information session was organised by Mali’s National Erasmus+ Focal Point under the coordination of Professor Ousmane Sahnogo, Deputy Director for Academic Affairs and Cooperation at DGERS. The event brought together teachers, students, university officials, and young professionals eager to learn more about the exchange opportunities, scholarships, and mobility projects offered by Erasmus+ 2021–2027.
Engaging and Interactive Presentations
The morning began with the welcoming of participants and official speeches, followed by a group photo symbolising the spirit of collaboration between Malian and European institutions. Presentations covered several key topics, including:
- Capacity building in vocational education, presented by Mali’s Erasmus+ Focal Point;
- The TourVET project: Sustainable Tourism and Hospitality VET in South Mediterranean countries, presented by Aïm Mdsaali from the University of Sousse;
- The Cap4Africa programme, focused on cooperation between Africa, Belgium, and France to strengthen the capacities of African vocational training providers, presented by Ousmane Dicko, Training Manager at Wetech, Mali;
- The ENFPs Network – Sub-Saharan Africa, led by Wafa Msaleem, Regional Coordinator of the network.
An Opportunity for Malian Youth
The session allowed participants to better understand how to get involved in Erasmus+ initiatives, explore project calls, and discover opportunities for institutional partnerships. Discussions highlighted Mali’s potential to benefit from academic and professional mobility programmes that support the internationalisation of higher education.
As ASAF Co-Ambassador for Mali and West Africa, Sira Antoinette Doumbia attended the event to strengthen the visibility of the ASAF network and encourage former Erasmus+ scholars to share their experiences and actively engage in the regional community.
The meeting concluded with an interactive discussion that opened new prospects for collaboration, marking an important step in advancing and expanding Erasmus+ opportunities in Mali.
