ASAF organises Erasmus+ Awareness and Campaign Outreach event in Nigeria

The Erasmus+ Awareness and Campaign Outreach event for Nigerian young people was designed to empower National Youth Service Corps members and foster networking between Erasmus+ alumni Networking and professionals in renewable energy. It was held in Lagos State on 9-10 May 2025.

The African Students and Alumni Forum (ASAF), led by Nigeria Co-Ambassador Chidimma Tonia Anyikwa, successfully implemented a two-day Erasmus+ project in Lagos, Nigeria, on May 9–10, 2025. The initiative aimed to empower Nigerian youth, particularly National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members, by raising awareness of Erasmus+ opportunities, promoting European educational programmes, and fostering professional development among alumni.

Day 1: Awareness and Campaign Outreach

The first day, held at the NYSC Camp, Iyana Ipaja, reached an impressive 3 270 corps members – well above the planned 2 000. Participants were introduced to Erasmus+ scholarships, mobility opportunities, and mentoring sessions led by alumni, inspiring the next generation to explore global education pathways.

Day 2: Alumni Networking and Cultural Exchange

The second day, hosted at Pearlworth Hotel, Ikeja, focused on alumni professional growth. 20 alumni members received training in renewable energy led by experts from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka. The day also facilitated networking, cultural exchange, and collaboration discussions among alumni.

Impact and outcomes of the event

The project significantly increased awareness of Erasmus+ among Nigerian young people and strengthened collaboration and mentoring networks within the alumni community. It facilitated the transfer of knowledge in renewable energy, supporting Nigeria’s transition to greener solutions. Furthermore, sustained engagement has been achieved through a dedicated WhatsApp community, where over 78% of interested participants continue to connect and share opportunities.

Special thanks to the EU Delegation to Nigeria, NYSC, Ministry of Youth Development, renewable energy experts, and ASAF alumni members, whose support made this project a success. This initiative shows the transformative power of Erasmus+ in building capacity, empowering youth, and connecting communities for a brighter future.
