The Regional Erasmus+ Cluster Meeting and Contact-Making Seminar 2025 for Sub-Saharan Africa took place in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, on 20 and 21 May 2025, with participants also joining online via Zoom.
The event formed part of the “Regional Erasmus+ Week for Sub-Saharan Africa”, organised by the Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC) of the European Commission and the European Education and Culture Executive Agency (EACEA).
Cluster Meeting
The event brought together representatives from 13 European countries and 32 Sub-Saharan African countries — with 131 participants on site and over 160 joining online. Participants gathered from higher education, vocational education and training institutions, network associations and other relevant bodies from Sub-Saharan Africa and Europe, all active in the Erasmus+ programme or potentially interested in developing cooperation under this scheme. They were joined by stakeholders involved in the implementation and promotion of the Erasmus+ programme, such as EU Funded networks (ASAF, OCEANS, EMA, etc.), the Sub-Saharan African Erasmus+ National Focal Points, Erasmus+ National Agencies, European Union Delegations in Africa, the European Commission and the European Education and Culture Executive Agency.
This year’s event addressed the role of education in Green Transition. The cluster meeting gave opportunities to showcase successful Erasmus+ mobility and cooperation projects, linking Sub-Saharan Africa and European education institutions, and focusing on the transversal programme priority “Environment and fight against climate change”.
Contact-making session
The online and on-site speed-networking sessions enabled participants to meet and engage with each other, with the aim of establishing project partnerships.
African Students and Alumni Forum (ASAF) members Agnes Anyango Andollo, Co-Ambassador of Kenya and Eastern Africa, and Mr Yenesew Alene Belew, Co-Ambassador of ASAF to Ethiopia, played various roles, including serving as panellists and engaging in advocacy and promotional duties on behalf of ASAF.
The event reinforced the value of EU–Africa collaboration in education, spotlighting shared goals in sustainability and paving the way for future Erasmus+ partnerships.
